4th of July
This past 4th of July I went a little patriotic food happy. :) It started with the flag rice crispy bars. They were just an idea I got after making strawberry rice crispy bars for the first time!
jello to taste
1/4 tsp vanilla
(Blue food coloring)
Spray a 9x13 pan
Melt the butter and marshmallows together in a sauce pan on medium heat. Stir it constantly so it doesn't burn to the bottom. Once the marshmallows are melted, remove the pan from the stove and stir in the jello until the mixture looks blue and tastes the way you want it. (maybe add some blue food coloring at this point. I didn't and when I mixed in the (yellow) cereal, my mixture turned greenish.) Pack the blue mixture into the corner where you want it. (I used parchment paper to pack it down with and it works very well.)
For the red:
Remaining rice crispies
Remaining marshmallows
A little less than half (3 oz) package red jello
Remaining butter
3/4 tsp vanilla.
Follow the directions for the blue bars. Pack the red mixture down around the blue so it looks like a flag.
Now melt the two blocks of white almond bark and transfer it to a baggie with a tiny bit of corner snipped off. Use this to make your stars and stripes! :) Refrigerate bars.
I had leftover almond bark. :)
And I had pretzels and sprinkles! :D

I added blue sprinkles to try to undo the "greenness" |
